In the Blackridge Mountains Susan Smoke has lived on her Grandma's property her whole life. Everyone in town knows to stay away from the Smokes. They're Hill People. But ever since he was a little boy, Jeremy Rudge has found himself passing by Susan's house almost every day, never stopping until one day Susan blows out his tires with a shotgun. A shotgun, a Ferris wheel ride, a yellow dress and a daughter's wedding bring us through time and show us an American love story - a story as old as the hills.
